Chessnut

Chessnut sells electronic chess boards that talk to Chess.com and Lichess instead of putting a game on a screen: you move real pieces, the board reads each move and relays it, and your opponent's reply shows up as an LED hint on the square. The range runs from the foldable travel board to the robotic Chessnut Move, which is the only model that shifts the pieces itself - it can reset to the starting position or lay out a specific endgame without you touching anything.

Prices on chessnutech.com on 29 October 2026, sale price first and list price second: Go $179.99 (was $199.99), Air $249.99 (was $349.99), Air+ $399.99 (was $469.99), Evo $629.99 (was $899.99), Move with plastic pieces $719 (was $899), Move with wooden pieces $799 (was $1,099). The storefront was running a site-wide 15% off code that day, so the first number is a promotion rather than the standing price - budget the second figure if you are not buying during a sale. There is no subscription tier in the product list: you buy the board once and the companion app is the free part.

Two things the product names do not tell you. First, only Move moves the pieces; Air, Air+ and Go all expect you to make the move by hand, which is fine for online play but a surprise for anyone who bought an 'AI board' expecting a robot. Second, the boards differ in size as well as price - Air is the travel size with smaller squares, Air+ is the full wooden tournament board, and Go folds up. These are for over-the-board players who want to play online without staring at a screen, and for coaches who want a physical board that records games.
